Occasionally, when I am not chasing eclipses, I do other stuff, too! In September 2016, I travelled aboard the Russian icebreaker Kapitan Khlebnikov from Resolute Bay, through the Northwest Passage to the coast of Alaska and down the Bering Strait to Russia’s far northeastern districts. Expedition travel on icebreakers in the polar regions is unlike any other kind of adventure. The extreme locations, the unique light, wildlife and landscapes, and the presence of sea ice everywhere make travelling on these ships exhilarating. Until you have been surrounded by big ice it is almost impossible to describe the experience. Here is short video that features a few of the shots I was able to get of the massive ship in the middle of the historic Northwest Passage.
